General fitness training works towards broad goals of overall health and well-being,  diet itself helps to increase calorie burning by boosting metabolism, a process further enhanced while gaining more lean muscle. An aerobic exercise program can burn fat and increase the metabolic rate.

Weight loss and muscle definition work hand in glove, don’t forget that muscle weighs heavier than fat, so if you are training to lose weight but you are using weights etc, don’t get discouraged when you jump on the scales and you have gained weight, what you have probably done is gain muscle.

What you are trying to acheive is getting your body fat percentage down to a healthy level and any good gym or personal trainer can measure this for you and tell you what your healthy range is.

A good fitness training programme is vital to achieving your goals and its not just a case of doing exercises for the sake of it you have to know what you want at the end of it, by knowing what muscle groups you are targeting and what you are expecting your end state to be.
